Delhi Stadium Gets Massive Makeover Ahead Of 2023 World Cup

The iconic Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi is in line to host five matches in the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup. The venue, one of the 10 stadiums chosen by BCCI for the tournament, will also host India’s clash against Afghanistan within the opening week of the competition.

With nearly a month-and-a-half remaining into the World Cup, the stadium recently had its outfield upgraded by the DDCA.

Delhi’s World Cup 2023 venue gets a major upgrade

The Arun Jaitley Stadium, managed by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), had its outfield upgraded as part of preparations for the upcoming World Cup 2023.

The venue will host five World Cup games, including one involving Team India on October 11. The first match to be played here will be the opening fixtures of Sri Lanka and South Africa on October 7, i.e., on the third day of the tournament.

With a crowd capacity of over 41,000; one can expect near-packed stadiums here, especially during India’s fixture.The World Cup 2023 itself will commence on October 5 with a match between 2019 finalists’ England and New Zealand. Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium will be the venue for the tournament opener, and it will also host the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash as well as the final on November 19.

The upcoming event marks a historic one for the BCCI, as it is the first-ever World Cup to be entirely hosted by India. The cricket-crazy nation previously co-hosted the 1987, 1996 and 2011 editions.
