Sri Lanka And CSK Star Matheesha Pathirana To Play For Rangpur Riders In BPL 2024

Sri Lankan star Matheesha Pathirana has been roped in by Rangpur Riders for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 season. The speedster has already made his name within franchise T20 circuit, having turned up for teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL, Kandy Falcons and Colombo Strikers in LPL, and Desert Vipers in UAE-based ILT20.
Pathirana’s latest signing with Rangpur Riders adds BPL to his illustrious T20 resumé.
Pathirana to make BPL debut with Rangpur Riders in 2024
Matheesha Pathirana will likely make his BPL debut through the Rangpur Riders franchise in 2024. However, several reports claim that he will only be available for the franchise after fulfilling his commitment for Desert Vipers in next year’s ILT20 2024 season. The two tournaments will likely clash in schedule to some extent.
Pathirana, who emerged as one of CSK’s standout performers in their emphatic IPL 2023 win, soon shot himself to international fame with Sri Lanka.
The speedster, often referred to as ‘Baby Malinga’ for his Lasith Malinga-inspired bowling action, made his ODI debut for Sri Lanka following his IPL success in India. The 20-year-old delivered a couple of match-winning spells for his country in their unbeaten ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifier run in Zimbabwe, and continued his journey at the subsequent Asia Cup 2023 at home.
So far, Pathirana has turned up for Sri Lanka in eight ODIs, all since June this year and a solitary T20I match back in August last year.
