In the latest development, South Africa have revealed their star-studded squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, and to no one’s surprise, the core of the team remains intact with almost all the players who participated in the T20I series against India included in the squad. 

Aiden Markram has been trusted with the captaincy duties as the he aims to win South Africa their maiden World Cup. Alongside him, senior batters like Quinton de Kock, and David Miller have also found a place in the team; however, in a surprising turn of events, the selectors have taken a harsh call and have dropped Tristan Stubbs from their squad.

Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Donovan Ferreira, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka, and Jason Smith will play their maiden T20 World Cup.

Kagiso Rabada returns after injury

In a major boost to the Proteas bowling attack, Kagiso Rabada, the right-arm pacer is back in the T20I setup after missing the last series against India. He had a rib injury, and his participation in the T20 World Cup was in jeopardy. However, his return will be a massive boost as Rabada is South Africa’s most experience bowler in the side.

Jason Smith receives surprise callup

Right-handed batter Jason Smith received a surprise call-up in the T20 World Cup squad. The batter last played for South Africa in the series against Namibia, but he had underwhelming outings.

So far, the batter has played just two matches and has racked up just 37 runs, with a strike rate of 102.77. However, Smith can play at the top order and can also slot in the middle order, and this flexibility is the reason why the batter was picked in the team.
