Washington Sundar starred in Team India’s T20I series win in Australia a couple of months ago. The star all-rounder has now been rewarded with a place in India’s squad for the upcoming home T20I series against New Zealand, as well as for the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup next month.

As Washington Sundar continues to spend some leisurely time away from the field, the cricketer recently had a brush with some unwanted attention from fans outside a hotel.

Fans question Washington Sundar’s ‘attitude’

On Friday, January 2; a video circulating on social media featured Washington Sundar making his way out of a hotel. The cricketer, however, got instantly swarmed by Indian cricket fans yearning for a quick glimpse and a selfie.

Washington Sundar, visibly annoyed, refused to click any pictures as he tried evading the overenthusiastic fans surrounding him. While Indian cricket fans tend to forget that players are entitled to personal space off the field, the brief clip was enough to trigger a wider online debate around celebrity boundaries and perceived attitude.

Several netizens took to X and questioned Washington Sundar’s ‘attitude’, with some even alleging that the all-rounder is considering himself to be a bigger personality than the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya.

After a hectic international season which included home series against West Indies and South Africa as well as an away series against Australia, Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar is currently enjoying a brief break before resuming his national duties.

In a couple of weeks, Team India will be taking on New Zealand in a five-match T20I series at home, which itself serves as a precursor to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
