With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 28 in Mumbai, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is likely to represent the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) at the table.

BCCI is at a crucial juncture with president Roger Binny stepping down after turning 70 in July, as per the board's age-cap rule. Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has been handling the job in an interim capacity since then.

Hence, to fix the vacant gaps and reach consensus on some key agendas, BCCI has called an AGM on September 28 at its headquarters in Mumbai.

Sourav Ganguly Likely In BCCI Presidency Race

According to The Telegraph India, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will attend the BCCI’s AGM as the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) representative.

Just days before that, on September 22, Ganguly is all set to take charge as CAB president at its own AGM. And if rumours are to be believed, Ganguly could also run for the BCCI presidency.

The BCCI elections this year will be crucial, with voting to be held for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer.

While Devajit Saikia (secretary), Rohan Gauns Dessai (joint secretary), and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia (treasurer) are expected to retain their posts, all eyes are on the president’s chair.

This vacuum has led to swirling rumours about possible successors, with some even linking Sachin Tendulkar to the top post.

Tendulkar Not Interested In BCCI Politics

However, Sachin Tendulkar quickly ended the chatter. In a strong statement, his team dismissed the reports of him running for the BCCI presidency role as “unfounded speculations”.

The batting legend made it clear that he has no role in the BCCI election drama, urging everyone not to give weight to false rumours.
