The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues to grow into a financial powerhouse, with its money swelling at an unprecedented rate. According to its latest financial statement shared with state associations, the Board had a bank balance of ₹20,686 crore as of September 2024, a massive leap from ₹6,059 crore in 2019, even after disbursing funds to state cricket associations.
Strong Growth In BCCI's Financials
Since 2019, BCCI has added ₹14,627 crore to its reserves, with a jump of ₹4,193 crore recorded in the last financial year alone. The general fund too has grown from ₹3,906 crore in 2019 to ₹7,988 crore in 2023-24, reflecting an increase of ₹4,082 crore in five years.
Contrary to popular belief that the cricket board does not pay income tax, the report revealed that BCCI provisioned ₹3,150 crore towards tax obligations in FY 2023-24, even while pursuing appeals in courts and tribunals.

Revenue Mix and Growth Drivers
- IPL 2023 surplus and ICC distributions played a key role in boosting overall surplus.
- Interest income from deposits nearly doubled to ₹986.45 crore, thanks to higher returns from nationalized and private banks.
- A sharp fall in media rights income was noted, with receipts plunging 68% due to fewer home internationals in 2023-24 compared to the packed calendar of 2022-23.
Infrastructure and Player Support
The Board allocated funds strategically for long-term development:
- ₹1,200 crore towards the Infrastructure Development Fund.
- ₹350 crore for the Platinum Jubilee Benevolent Fund.
- ₹500 crore for the Cricket Development Fund.
Additionally, the BCCI disbursed ₹1,990.18 crore to state associations in FY 2023-24, with an estimated ₹2,013.97 crore planned for 2024-25. Despite a slump in media rights, BCCI’s financial muscle only grew stronger in FY 2023-24, with soaring surplus and investment returns ensuring cricket in India continues to be backed by unmatched financial security.
