Sourav Ganguly has been re-appointed as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) cricket committee. The former Indian captain previously took on the role in November 2021 by succeeding his former national teammate and legendary spinner Anil Kumble.
Apart from Ganguly, fellow former Indian batter VVS Laxman has also been retained by the ICC as a panel member. The apex body confirmed the development a few days ago on their social media accounts.
Sourav Ganguly re-appointed as ICC Chairman
Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly captained his national side between the years 2000 and 2005. After serving as the Chairman of the ICC men’s cricket committee, the 52-year-old has now been re-appointed to the role.
His ex-national teammate VVS Laxman also found himself being retained as one of the panel members by the ICC. The two former Indian cricketers are joined by ex-Afghanistan player Hamid Hassan, West Indies great Desmond Haynes, current South African captain Temba Bavuma and ex-English batter Jonathan Trott.
The ICC Women’s cricket committee, on the other hand, features Catherine Campbell, Avril Fahey and Pholetsi Moseki.

A veteran of 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly announced his retirement from international cricket in mid-2008 after India’s home Test series against Australia. Widely regarded as one of the greatest left-handed batters of all time, Ganguly also became the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in October 2019. He held on to the role until October 2022 before making way for 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny.
Between the years 2015 and 2019, Sourav Ganguly was also the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
