Why Has Shreyas Iyer Dropped Marcus Stoinis From Playing XI vs KKR?

In the match 31 of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings are up against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mullanpur and Shreyas Iyer's side will be batting first again. Their opponents, KKR have made one change with Anrich Nortje coming in, while PBKS have also made two changes.

One of those change is a forced one with Lockie Ferguson injured. Xavier Bartlett has taken his place, while Marcus Stoinis has also been dropped. In his place, Josh Inglis has been selected. Stoinis has not been in good form this season, but smashed four consecutive sixes in the last match, so it is a bit surprise to see him getting replaced.

However, it has been reported that he picked up an injury in the last game against SRH, and is out for 7-10 days. He is likely to miss the next two games for Punjab Kings against RCB too. There is no confirmation though, and his exclusion from the side could be the result of PBKS management choosing a pure batter over Stoinis who has not even contributed with the ball.

The choice of Shreyas Iyer to bat after winning the toss is an interesting one though. In the last match, they scored close to 250 runs, but SRH managed to chase down the target. So, they would have to come up with better plans in this game, if they don't want to repeat the performance of the last game.
