The Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed surprise and asked the management to keep an eye on leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who has been a regular member of the Indian team in limited-overs cricket for the big ODI World Cup.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been one of the best spinner's in the recent years. India picked Chahal in last year’s T20 World Cup squad but he didn’t get a chance in the playing XI throughout the tournament as India bowed out in the semi-final after losing to England.

While India have other quality wrist spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi at their disposal, however, Ganguly feels Chahal could be key to their chances to win the ODI World Cup.

"I feel India have to find a wrist-spinner for this World Cup. Jadeja is there, Ravichandran Ashwin is there, Axar Patel is there, who according to me is also an exceptional all-rounder," Ganguly told Star Sports.

The former Indian captain also underlined that fact that SENA countries find it hard to tackle wrist spinners, especially with the tournament set to be held on home soil.

"When you will play Australia, England or South Africa, a wrist-spinner makes a difference in these conditions. In 2011, there was Piyush Chawla, who bowled well."

Also, the former BCCI president highlighted that India have always done well when the spinners have fired in all the cylinders.

"When we went to South Africa in 2007, there also our wrist-spinners bowled well along with the fast bowlers. Harbhajan Singh was in that team. I feel it will be extremely important to keep a wrist-spinner in Indian conditions," he concluded.

The World Cup will be played across 10 venues — Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata.
