Australian wicketkeeper-batter, Alex Carey, has found himself in a payment dispute with a barber from Leeds, Adam Mahmood, after allegedly leaving his shop without paying £30.

Leeds Barber gives ultimatum as Alex Carey fails to pay £30

The incident took place just before the third Ashes 2023 Test got underway at Headingley. Mahmood has given Carey until the end of the third Test to settle the outstanding amount.

According to The Sun, Mahmood expressed his willingness to wait for the payment as Carey had promised to transfer the money later, citing the absence of cash on his person at the time. However, despite the assurance, Mahmood claims he is still awaiting the payment.

Carey, who was labeled a cheat for a controversial stumping incident involving England's Jonny Bairstow during a previous match at Lord's, had assured Mahmood that he would make the payment via bank transfer.

The barber from Doc Barnet's Barber Shop in Leeds disclosed that Carey and his teammates Marnus Labuschagne, David Warner, and Usman Khawaja visited the shop ahead of the third Test at Headingley. While the other players posed for photographs and settled their bills, Carey declined to be photographed and abruptly left the premises.

"I'm still waiting. They all came in just before we shut. We cut their hair and had a great laugh. But we don’t accept cards and Alex said he had no cash on him. Well, there’s a Tesco cash machine literally round the corner he could have run to," said Mahmmod.

Mahmood, who expected Carey to return promptly to the hotel and settle the payment, expressed his understanding by stating that the cricketer might have forgotten. However, if the outstanding amount remains unpaid by Monday, Mahmood voiced his dissatisfaction with the situation.

"Maybe he forgot. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt but if it's not paid by Monday, I won't be happy," added the Barber.
