Former England captain and expert commentator Nasser Hussain has identified young Pakistani batter Saim Ayub as one of the potential candidates for the next generation’s ‘Fab Four’. Hussain also named rising Indian star Yashasvi Jaiswal and England’s serial ‘BazBaller’ Harry Brook as other candidates for the elite category.
The term ‘Fab Four’ was itself first coined by former New Zealand captain and late cricketer Martin Crowe back in 2013, who famously predicted that players like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson to dominate world cricket in the years to come.
Nasser Hussain picks Saim Ayub for ‘Fab Four’
Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes Saim Ayub has the potential to become one of the members of the next generation’s ‘Fab Four’. While speaking with Michael Atherton, Hussain praised Ayub’s attacking mindset, and described him a ‘multi-format’ player.
Moreover, the cricketer-turned-commentator named young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and England’s firebrand middle-order batter Harry Brook as other candidates for his ‘Fab Four’. While Nasser Hussain also picked Australian batting dynamite Travis Head for the category, it was rejected by Atherton considering the 2023 World Cup winner, aged 31, is past the age limit to be termed as a future batting superstar.
Atherton also picked Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harry Brook among his picks, alongside New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and Sri Lanka’s run machine Kamindu Mendis as his potential ‘Fab Four’ members for the future.
Saim Ayub form and injury
Saim Ayub recently starred in Pakistan’s historic 3-0 ODI series win in South Africa. Moreover, the 22-year-old also unleashed match-winning knocks during Pakistan’s preceding white-ball series wins in Australia and Zimbabwe.
As of now, the dashing young opener is recovering from the injury he sustained during Pakistan’s Test series in South Africa. It remains to be seen if Ayub attains full recovery by the time of the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
