Smriti Mandhana becomes fifth Indian player to 2000 runs in T20Is

The talented opener of the Indian women's team, Smriti Mandhana, reached another milestone in her illustrious career.


During the 2nd T20I game between India and Sri Lanka at Dambulla on 25 June (Saturday), Mandhana scored 39 off 34 balls, comprising eight boundaries. In its pursuit, she became the fifth Indian player to cross the mark of 2000 runs in the T20Is.


The 25-year-old made her T20I debut in 2013 against Bangladesh. Today, she featured in her 86th T20I match and completed 2000 runs in her 84th innings. The southpaw has now accumulated 2011 runs in the shortest format, with 14 fifties to her name.


Before her, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur had already passed this milestone, with Kohli being the fastest among them as he reached the figure in his 56th inning.

Earlier this year, Mandhana had crossed the milestone of 5000 international runs in an ODI fixture against Bangladesh.


In the past, The Mumbai-born cricketer has also received the Rachael Hayhoe – Flint Award (Best Women's Cricketer of the Year) in 2018 and 2021. She is a key player for the Indian team across all formats of the game


Mandhana emerged as the top scorer for the Indian women's team to chase down a tricky score of 125 with five wickets to spare and win the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
