In a significant development, veteran keeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed has been ruled out of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo due to a concussion injury. Sarfaraz was hit on his helmet during Pakistan's first innings. Following the incident, he felt uncomfortable and was declared concussed after thorough assessment. So, Pakistan's request to replace him with his back-up, Mohammad Rizwan, was formally accepted by Match referee David Boon.

After being sidelined for a few years, Sarfaraz made a remarkable comeback to the Test side last year, amassing 335 runs, including a hundred and three fifties in the home series against New Zealand. However, he endured a poor outing in the first Test of the ongoing series, managing only 18 runs across two outings.

Meanwhile, talking about Rizwan, the gritty right-handed batter is yet to establish himself in the Test setup despite being a regular in limited-overs cricket. In 27 matches, the 31-year-old has 1373 runs to his name with the help of two centuries and seven fifties.

Regarding the game, Pakistan are in a commanding position, thanks to a stunning knock from opener Abdullah Shafique. In response to Sri Lanka's first innings total of 166, the visitors are 407 for four, with Shafique and Agha Salman batting on 196* and 32*, respectively.
