Arshdeep Singh, India's promising left-arm pacer, made waves in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 contest between Mumbai and Punjab. He dismantled Mumbai's heavyweight lineup, featuring Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, to claim a sensational five-wicket-haul.
After being ignored for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Arshdeep Singh turned up for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 season as a frontline pacer for Punjab. He had a slow start to the tournament, claiming just 3 wickets combined in the first three rounds.
Nevertheless, Arshdeep stepped up when it really mattered. Against Mumbai in the fourth round, he initiated the carnage by getting Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the very first over and continued the job with Ayush Mhatre's scalp.
Arshdeep Singh shocks Mumbai with stunning spell
The pick of his spell was against Mumbai's big guns. Arshdeep got Suryakumar Yadav back for a duck before knocking over Shreyas Iyer's stumps for 17 runs. His relentless approach continued as he claimed Shivam Dube's wicket in his seventh over, capping a brilliant 41-ball display that left Mumbai reeling at 39/5. Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh secured a five-wicket-haul to thump his authority in the high-stake clash.
That being said, Arshdeep Singh's masterclass comes at the right time. With Mohammed Shami ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar series with injury, the likelihood of him being unavailable for Champions Trophy 2025 is high. Therefore, Arshdeep may prove to be a good replacement because of his experience and the performance in white-ball cricket.
Hardik Pandya signs up for Vijay Hazare ahead of Champions Trophy
Hardik Pandya is all geared up to make a highly-awaited return to 50-over cricket as part of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 season. Ever since his injury recovery early in 2024, Pandya has only been playing T20 cricket.
Now, his return to the longer white-ball format, starting with Baroda's December 28 clash against Bengal, is expected to put him back in contention for India's Champions Trophy squad in February 2025.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be played across Pakistan and the UAE. India will face top teams in challenging conditions, which makes Pandya's all-round abilities a valuable asset if he proves his form and fitness during the domestic season.
