Ruturaj Gaikwad has once again proven why he’s one of the most exciting players in Indian cricket. On December 23, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain lit up the MCA Cricket Ground with a scintillating century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024 clash between Maharashtra and Services. His unbeaten knock of 148 runs off just 74 balls left fans in awe.
Ruturaj, opening the innings with Om Bhosale, began aggressively as Maharashtra chased down a modest target of 205. He scored his century in just 57 balls, laced with 10 boundaries and 8 towering sixes, achieving an extraordinary strike rate close to 200. Despite missing out on a century during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024, he more than made up for it in this match.
The star batter didn’t stop at 100. He continued to dominate the Services bowlers, eventually remaining unbeaten on 148 runs. Maharashtra cruised to a 9-wicket victory, finishing the chase in just 20.2 overs.
Services’ Struggle With The Bat Against MAH
Earlier in the match, Services batted first after losing the toss. They managed to post a total of 204 runs, thanks to Mohit Ahlawat’s 61 and Poonam Poonie’s 26 runs. However, the Maharashtra bowlers, led by Pradeep Dadhe and Satyajeet Bachhav, who picked up three wickets each, ensured Services couldn’t build any significant partnerships. Mukesh Choudhary also chipped in with two wickets.
Ruturaj’s innings not only helped Maharashtra secure a comfortable win but also solidified his reputation as a dependable and explosive opener. His form is a positive sign for CSK fans as they look forward to the next IPL season, with high hopes for their captain.
