Former West Indies captain Vivian Richards has been appointed as the sixth and final mentor of the upcoming Pakistan Junior League.

With six teams set to participate in the tournament, Richards has joined the likes of Pakistan greats Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and overseas stars Darren Sammy, Colin Munro and Imran Tahir as team mentors of all sides. Meanwhile, former Pakistan skipper Javed Miandad has been selected as a guide for all six teams.

Vivian Richards “absolutely thrilled” in re-uniting with Miandad

In a press release by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Richards expressed his excitement of re-uniting with Javed Miandad.

“I am absolutely thrilled at reuniting with my mate Javed Miandad at the Pakistan Junior League with whom I cherish some great memories from our playing days. Miandad was a fighter and a tough competitor, and it will be lovely to be working alongside him at the Pakistan Junior League, which is an exciting and innovative concept."

The two-time World Cup-winner also praised the prospects of Pakistan Junior League, describing it as a tool to unearth quality cricketing talent within Pakistan.

“I think the Pakistan Junior League is a tremendous tool for further consolidating Pakistan cricket’s foundations by unearthing and developing quality talent.”
