The high-octane Test series between England and India is done and dusted. It ended with a scoreline of 2-2, and one of the key performers of that game was Karun Nair. The batter scored a crucial fifty in the first innings, and it was his only notable knock in the series.
Karun Nair Suffered A Blow To His Finger In The Oval Test
Thus, there are chances that he could not be selected for India again, and in this context, the Duleep Trophy was crucial for him to stamp his authority. However, The Times of India has now reported that the all-rounder would not play the Duleep Trophy due to the injury he suffered in the second innings of the Oval Test.
According to TOI, Karun Nair was hit by a rising delivery and has suffered a minor fracture on his finger. Thus, Nair would not represent Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy this year.
Karun Nair represented Vidarbha in the last season and took them to the title win with his consistent batting. He scored 863 runs in nine matches at an average of 53.93. He hit four hundreds and two fifties in the season, and it helped him make a famous comeback to the Indian Test side.
Nair To Miss Duleep Trophy Opportunity After Mediorce England Series
However, he has now decided to go back to his home state, Karnataka and would be looking to deliver consistently there too. Overall, the Duleep Trophy is a big opportunity for all the domestic players to stake their claim for an India spot, and Karun Nair's absence might hurt him in future.
The first round of the Duleep Trophy will be played from August 28. Central Zone will play against North East Zone in their first match, and so far, the BCCI has announced squads for West Zone, East Zone and South Zone.
