Veteran Zimbabwe cricketer Brendan Taylor had a disastrous outing in his first ODI match after a long hiatus. Coming at number three, Taylor was dismissed for a duck, leaving Zimbabwe in a disarray during their run chase in the second half of the game.

Taylor Bags Embarrassing Record With Duck On ODI Comeback

After losing the toss and being put into bat first, Sri Lanka posted a challenging total of 298 runs for the loss of six wickets, riding on stunning half-centuries from Pathum Nissanka, Janith Liyanage and Kamindu Mendis.

Chasing 299, Zimbabwe had the worst possible start to their innings, losing the crucial wicket of Brian Bennett for a golden duck. Brendan Taylor, who made his ODI comeback after almost four years, entered the middle to steady the ship for the home side.

However, the legendary cricketer let his team down with a poor performance, being dismissed for a bronze duck in the high-profile clash. After playing two dot balls, Taylor played a horrible shot, gifting his wicket to the Lankan lions in the very first over.

Thus, he joined former cricketers, Tatenda Taibu and Prosper Utseya, for the third most ducks for Zimbabwe in ODI cricket.

Most ducks for Zimbabwe in ODI cricket

  • Grant Flower - 18
  • Elton Chigumbura - 17
  • Tatenda Taibu - 16
  • Prosper Utseya - 16
  • Brendan Taylor - 16

As mentioned above, Grant Flower claims the first position with 18 ducks, with ex-captain Elton Chigumbura is placed second with seventeen scores of zero in the format.

Despite losing two wickets inside the first four balls of their innings, Zimbabwe avoided a batting collapse, with Ben Curran and Sean Williams giving the visitors a run for their money. As of writing, Zimbabwe were 70 for two, with Curran and Williams batting on 38* and 29*, respectively.
