India's middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer's tryst with injuries has hampered his march in international cricket. Iyer was ruled out of the fourth and final Test against Australia last week after his back spasms resurfaced midway.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, Iyer has been advised to rest and not do any physical activity that exerts pressure on his back. His participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) still lies in limbo, with the batter being told to wait 10 days before taking any concrete decision.

Iyer's initial scans were not encouraging, forcing the right-hander out of the ongoing ODI series against Australia. Spine specialist Dr. Abhay Nene, with whom Iyer is under consultation, has asked the KKR skipper to take time and reassess.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make any official statement about Iyer's back injury. KKR, too, are gearing up to find a suitable replacement for Iyer as a leader, fearing eventuality.

The IPL 2023 gets underway on March 31, with two-time champions KKR playing their first match against Punjab Kings on April 1.
