IPL Biggies Buy Franchises in USA's Major League Cricket
Mumbai & Chennai are the two most successful IPL franchises (iplt20.com)
The Indian Premier League (IPL) continues to expand its avenues with several team owners staking a claim in different T20 Leagues around the globe. The upcoming inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) will see as many as four IPL-team owners run a franchise in the US-based competition.
As announced today, the GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals will run the Seattle Orcas, along with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians will also have a team in MLC, which begins sometime in July 2023.
Earlier, the Kolkata Knight Riders became the first IPL franchise to own a club in MLC, which will be based out of Los Angeles.
MI will field a team based out of New York, with Rahul Sanghvi and J Arun Kumar doing scouting work. CSK have ownership over the Dallas franchise, for whom former South Africa player Albie Morkel will find talent.
For the uninitiated, the MLC Draft will take place on March 19 at the Nasa Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, with several international players up for grabs.
Apart from IPL teams, Australian domestic sides like New South Wales and Cricket Victoria have joined hands with the Washington DC and San Francisco-based franchises, respectively.
The MLC already have international stars like Corey Anderson, Unmukt Chand, Ali Khan, and Liam Plunkett working with them.
