The much-awaited India vs Pakistan semi-final at the World Championship of Legends will not happen. The match has officially been cancelled because the Indian team decided not to play against Pakistan. This decision comes after recent terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, which worsened the already tense political situation between the two countries.
Earlier in the tournament, India had already refused to play Pakistan in the group stage for the same reason, forfeiting that match. At the time, many wondered if they would take the same stand again if they faced Pakistan in the knockouts. Now, it’s clear, they did.
As the semi-final lineup was confirmed, the Indian team, led by Yuvraj Singh, made it clear once again: they would not play against Shahid Afridi’s Pakistan side under any circumstances.
India Walks Out Instead Of Facing Afridi’s Pakistan After Heated Comment
A video on social media shows Shahid Afridi standing helplessly on a stadium balcony as Indian players like Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, and Shikhar Dhawan walked out of the venue.
Adding to the drama, Afridi had made a controversial comment after Pakistan qualified for the semi-finals. He said, “Pata nahi ab kis muh se khelga, par khelega hamare sath hi” (Don’t know how India will show their face, but they’ll have to play us).
However, his statement backfired. Instead of playing, India chose to withdraw from the tournament entirely, standing by their political and ethical position.
Shahid Afridi may have thought that India would have no choice but to play, especially in such a crucial knockout game. But the Indian team chose to walk out with pride rather than compete against Pakistan in the current political climate.
Before this, India had kept their tournament hopes alive by beating the West Indies Champions in a dominant performance, chasing the target in just 13.2 overs. That win secured their spot in the semi-finals. However, since they’ve now withdrawn, Pakistan move straight to the final.
In terms of performance, Pakistan have been in top form, winning all four of their group-stage matches and finishing at the top of the table. India, on the other hand, struggled in the beginning with three straight losses but bounced back strongly before ultimately opting out of the tournament due to off-field reasons.
Now, Pakistan will head to the final, where they will face either of the two remaining semi-finalists.
