Shami Takes A Hilarious Jibe At Rohit Sharma And Rahul Dravid With His 'I'm Habitual' Response

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been a crucial element of the Indian bowling line-up for years now, especially in the Test and ODI formats. A few eyebrows were raised when  Shami wasn't part of India's playing XI for the initial few matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

However, it was only after Hardik Pandya's unfortunate ankle injury that Shami joined the team and eventually became the tournament's top wicket-taker.

During the CEAT Cricket Awards, Mayanti Langar asked him about the situation, to which he responded with his trademark humour. He hilariously jibed Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma, leaving them and the audience in splits.

"I'm habitual to it, I think," Shami said when asked about his brilliant comebacks to the team after being sidelined initially.

"In 2015, 2019, and 2023, I had the same start. When I was given a chance, the performances, thanks to god, they never thought of dropping me again. You can call to hard work, but I'm always ready for a chance. Only when you're ready can you prove yourself. Otherwise, I can only run to the field to give water! It's better to seize the opportunity when you get it," he added.

Shami Expected To Play For Bengal In Ranji Trophy

The ankle injury that Mohammed Shami sustained in the 2023 ODI World Cup was of a grave nature and hence required intensive rehabilitation. Fully aware of the gravity of the injury, Shami has adopted a judicious approach to his comeback-first regaining full fitness through domestic cricket before joining the Indian national team.

His focus is more on ensuring a complete recovery rather than rushing back into international play. His rehabilitation, therefore, has been closely monitored by the Indian team management, with much emphasis laid on his long-term fitness so that when he returns, he is fully prepared. It is expected he will likely play at Ranji Trophy for Bengal.
