In an interesting turn of events, Bangladesh have named Shakib Al Hasan as their skipper for the upcoming big events - Asia Cup and World Cup. Recently, Tamim Iqbal stepped down as Bangladesh's ODI skipper and since then, there were speculations that BCB want Shakib Al Hasan as a captain instead of Litton Das for the upcoming mega events.

Shakib is already a T20I and Test captain of Bangladesh and the reason behind Shakib's return as ODI skipper is believed to be his rich captaincy experience. Interestingly, Litton Das has recently captained Bangladesh in ODI cricket whenever Tamim was absent but it seems that he would be handed long-term captaincy reigns after the World Cup in India.

Shakib Al Hasan's Captaincy Record & Performance In World Cups

Shakib Al Hasan has led Bangladesh previously in 50 ODIs, Bangladesh managed to win 23 ODIs under his leadership and the Tigers would be hoping for a good performance in the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup.

Shakib Al Hasan has previously led Bangladesh in the 2011 World Cup as well but Bangladesh were pretty below-par in that World Cup. Overall, Shakib Al Hasan has played 4 ODI World Cups so far, starting from 2007 and would be featuring in his fifth World Cup this time around. He was also Bangladesh’s leading run-scorer in the 2019 World Cup and has been pretty good in previous editions of the mega event with his all-round performance.

Talking about Tamim Iqbal, he has been ruled out of Asia Cup 2023 and Bangladesh fans would be hoping that he gets fit in time for the all-important World Cup.
