In a significant development, Pakistan seamer Shaheen Afridi, who is representing Brisbane Heat in the ongoing edition of BBL, has been ruled out of the upcoming clash against Adelaide Strikers. The Heat are all set to lock horns against the Strikers on December 31, but will be without Afridi, who is recovering from a knee injury.
Afridi suffered a blow to his knee during the Heat’s clash against the Strikers on December 28 when he landed heavily on his left foot and left the field with pain. He will now miss the reverse fixture. In a significant development, Heat took to Twitter to share an update on Shaheen Afridi and stated that the left-arm seamer has commenced his rehab and will be further assessed after coming back from Adelaide.
“Shaheen Shah Afridi (knee) commenced rehab and will be further reviewed upon the team’s return from Adelaide. Tom Alsop (knee) resumed training yesterday and will be reviewed again on 1 January. Nathan McSweeney (ankle) resumed training, including batting and running; he has traveled with the squad to Adelaide and will train again ahead of tomorrow night’s match,” the press statement remarked.
Shaheen Afridi in dismal form in the BBL
The 25-year-old has played four innings in the BBL this year and picked up just two wickets. He has a strike-rate of 41.00 and an economy of 11.20. There were speculations that the left-arm seamer might be ruled out of the entire BBL. However, he isn't serious as thought and will soon return to the cricket field.
Further, Afridi has been confirmed to stay in Australia for the entire BBL as he has not been picked for Pakistan vs Sri Lanka T20Is as well, which will overlap with the business end of the Big Bash League.
