Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has achieved a historic feat by becoming the first Indian athlete to secure a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. He achieved this milestone by outperforming Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem in the men's javelin final, delivering an impressive throw of 88.17 meters.

Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who had been recovering from elbow surgery and a knee injury, recorded his best performance of the season with a throw of 87.82 meters during his third attempt, earning him the silver medal. This was the first event of 2023 in which Nadeem participated. The bronze medal was claimed by Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic, who achieved a distance of 86.67 meters with his javelin.

Pakistan's star pace duo of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf congratulated Arshad for winning silver at the World Athletics Championship.

"Arshad, congratulations on winning the medal," said Shaheen in a video message. "It's a proud moment for Pakistan. You deserve all the recognition. I congratulate you on this incredible achievement," Haris added.

Former Pakistani cricket captain Wasim Akram also took to X to acknowledge Nadeem's achievement, saying his silver medal was “worth more than a gold”.

“You don’t get the top level facilities other athletes get, but you still excelled. So pleasing that we are celebrating achievement other than in cricket!” Akram posted on X.

Nadeem earlier represented Pakistan at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which took place in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He made history by becoming the first Pakistani athlete to qualify for the finals in the javelin throw at the Olympics.

Born on January 2, 1997, in Khanewal, Punjab, Pakistan, Nadeem is regarded as one of Pakistan's greatest track and field athletes.
