Star India batter Shafali Verma delivered a stunning hat-trick during Haryana’s Women’s U-23 ODI Trophy pre-quarterfinal clash against Karnataka in Fulung, North Guwahati, showcasing her lesser-known prowess as a part-time off-spinner. 

The fiery all-rounder dismissed P Saloni (30) and Soumya Verma (0) off consecutive balls in the 44th over before returning in the 46th to clean up Namita D’Souza (1), completing her treble.

Shafali Verma's spell of 3/20 in four overs proved pivotal in restricting Karnataka to 217, setting up Haryana’s six-wicket victory and a quarterfinal berth. The feat comes days after Shafali’s Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise, Delhi Capitals, suffered a third consecutive final defeat. 

Dropped from India’s T20 squad post the 2024 World Cup, the aggressive opener has since silenced critics with consistent domestic performances, finishing fourth in the 2025 WPL run charts behind overseas stars Nat Sciver-Brunt, Ellyse Perry, and Hayley Matthews.

Shafali's Heroics Overshadow Karnataka’s Fight

Opting to bowl first, Haryana struck early as Kareena Jangra removed opener Roshni Kiran (17). Karnataka rebuilt through Lavanya Chalana and GR Prerana’s 44-run stand before collapsing to 94/4. A 94-run partnership between Mithila Vinod and Saloni revived the innings, but Shafali’s hat-trick triggered a late collapse, limiting Karnataka to 217.

In reply, Haryana stumbled to 32/2 before Deeya Yadav (39) and Soniya Mendhiya (92) steadied the chase. Tanisha Ohlan (56*) and Triveni Vasistha (56*) sealed the win with an unbroken 56-run stand, underscoring Haryana’s depth. 

Shafali’s all-round brilliance highlighted her versatility in all formats of the game, also signalling her India return, blending aggression with strategy in a pressure-cooker knockout fixture.
