A county cricket coach has been handed is facing a six-month suspension after admitting to inappropriate behaviour with a player under his care. The incidents happened during a pre-season tour back in March 2024 and the Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) didn’t take it lightly, deeming it as serious misconduct. As a result, the coach lost his job in the professional game.

Six-Month Suspension for County Coach After Sexual Misconduct with Player

It all started during a pre-season tour for the men’s and women’s teams of an unnamed county. The coach’s actions raised enough concern for an investigation.

By May, the ECB had sent him a formal charge, saying his actions went against the 2023 Professional Conduct Regulations. By July, Coach A had owned up to the charges.

The CDC decided to keep everyone’s identities hidden. The coach was just referred to as "Coach A," and the player involved as "Player 1." Another player and a senior county employee who gave statements also had their names kept private. The goal was to protect any vulnerable individuals in the case.

The CDC collected evidence, including call logs, message schedules, and an interview transcript. But since the coach admitted to everything, the CDC chose not to release all the details.

Details of the Suspension

Of the six-month suspension, three months have already been served, as the coach has been out of cricket since March 2024. The other three months are on hold for two years, meaning he’ll need to stay on his best behaviour. The coach is also required to complete some training at his own cost. The CDC didn’t add any fines, given the financial impact on him and his family.

Cricket Regulator’s Statement

In a statement, interim director of The Cricket Regulator, Dave Lewis stated the importance of keeping participants safe, especially those in vulnerable situations. He encouraged anyone facing such issues to report them and reassured them that their identities would be protected.

The CDC further noted that the coach cooperated fully, accepted responsibility, and apologized. He’s had a clean record up until now and has even completed all his safeguarding courses and a recent DBS check.
