In a significant development, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are set for another setback as BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that there would be no change to the recent policy limiting family's travel with players.
After the Border-Gavaskar Trophy debacle, the BCCI introduced a few harsh policies for the players, one of them including restricting families' travel with the players. According to the new policy, Players absent from India for more than 45 days during overseas tours can be joined by their partners and children for a period of a maximum of 14 days.
BCCI To Not Reverse Family-Ban Policy After Kohli's Remarks
The move was criticised by several Indian stars. None of them made a public remark but the dissatisfaction over the move was clear. However, in the latest events, Virat Kohli expressed his displeasure over it and remarked that no player loves to sit alone in the room and sulk.
"If you ask any player, do you want your family to be around you all the time? They'll be like, yes. I don't want to go to my room and just sit alone and sulk. I want to be able to be normal. And then you can really treat your game as something that is a responsibility. You finish that responsibility, and you come back to life," Virat Kohli was quoted as saying after a recent event in Bengaluru.
BCCI Secretary Breaks Silence On Recent Rumours
After Kohli's complaint, there were rumours that the BCCI is all set to reverse their decision. However, In the latest events, the BCCI secretary refuted any changes and stated that the policy is here to stay. He said:
"At this stage, the current policy will remain intact, as it is of paramount importance to both the nation and our institution, the BCCI," Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz in an interview.
"The BCCI recognises that there may be some resentment or differing opinions, as in a democratic setup, people are entitled to express their views. The policy is applied uniformly to all team members - players, coaches, managers, support staff, and everyone involved - and has been implemented with the best interests of everyone in mind," he added.
The next edition of IPL is set to commence from March 22 when RCB take on KKR in the curtain raiser game of the cash-studded league.
