Sunday, March 23 will be special for the Indian Premier League (IPL) lovers as the greatest rivalry will resume with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Mumbai Indians (MI) in the third match of the upcoming season. The contest will take place at the iconic M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The game will happen at CSK's den and the Yellow Army will start as the firm favourites. The Mumbai team will also miss their key players in Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah and will need match-winners to fill in the big hole created by the two stars.

Why Mumbai will lose Vs CSK

Mumbai Indians are likely to lose this match and the reason is not the absence of their key players, but it has something to do with their past.

The 5-time IPL champions have not won an opening game in the league since the 2012 season and the trend is likely to continue as they face a daunting task against a formidable CSK side.

The last time MI won an opening match in IPL was during the 2012 season when they defeated CSK and it came under the leadership of Harbhajan Singh.

Hardik not to play Vs CSK, SKY to lead

Hardik Pandya was fined last season for slow-over rate and the MI captain had three such instances, and as a result, he was banned from one-game in the IPL 2025. With Hardik unfortunately missing out, Suryakumar Yadav will take charge of the team against CSK.

Moreover, Bumrah will also not feature in the opening match as he continues to recover from a back injury sustained during the BGT Vs Australia.
