Former India captain MS Dhoni marked his 44th birthday on Monday (July 7) in his signature low-key style, celebrating the occasion with a close group of friends and staff at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) premises in Ranchi. It is important to note that the celebrations extended far beyond. In Vijayawada and several parts of South India, fans of the CSK paid grand tributes. Posters featuring Dhoni in traditional South Indian attire were held high, as fans chanted slogans and honoured the legacy of 'Thala.'

MS Dhoni's Stellar Career

Though Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020, his presence in the sport remains immense. He last featured in the 2025 season of the IPL, continuing to lead CSK with his composure and strategic thinking. While Chennai endured a tough season, Dhoni’s leadership once again became a focal point for fans, who now await news on whether he will return for another year.

Talking a look at his career, MS Dhoni has played 538 matches, and scored 17,266 runs. His records speak volumes- 10,773 runs in ODIs at an average of 50.57, including 10 centuries and a memorable unbeaten 183* against Sri Lanka. He was also the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to cross the 10,000-run mark in ODIs, largely while batting in the lower middle order.

As captain, Dhoni remains unmatched in Indian cricket history, having led the team to victory in all three major ICC trophies that is the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Though he now appears only occasionally in public, the affection, love and admiration for MS Dhoni remain as strong as ever.
