Cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar Sanath Jayasuriya, Javed Miandad etched their names in the cricket history as they played 50-over format for over 20 years. Now, Zimbabwe’s star Sean Williams joins the elite club, celebrating 20 years in the 50-over format.

Sean Williams Joins Cricket Greats In Unique ODI Records

Javed Miandad, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Sachin Tendulkar are cricket legends who have left unforgettable marks in the ODI format, each playing for an impressive 20 years. Now this list has been longer as Zimbabwe star Sean Williams has joined them in this elite list after completing 20 years in the 50-over format.

Sachin Tendulkar played ODIs for 22 years and featured in 463 games. Jayasuriya featured played 445 matches in his 21-year long ODI career. Javed Miandad played 233 ODIs in his ODI career of 20 years. After completing 20 years in the 50-over format, Sean Williams is the newest member of this elite list.

Sean Williams made his ODI debut for Zimbabwe in February 25 in 2005. On February 25, 2025, he has completed 20 years of playing in the ODI format. This is an incredible milestone of his career. In 162 ODIs, the all-rounder scored 5,140 runs and secured 85 wickets. with that, he has become a crucial member of the squad over the years.

Williams Words After The Incredible Milestone

Spending 20 long years in a format and delivering some incredible performances for the side is not even a small thing and Sean Williams has achieved this milestone with all glory. With talent, hard work and whole lot of passion, the all-rounder served the nation on the global stage. After that milestone, Williams shared his words.

“I'm still trying to come to terms with getting older. It's an amazing feeling to have been involved in cricket for this long. I'm grateful to many people who have supported me at crucial times.” Williams said.

Will He Feature In 2027 ODI World Cup?

After 2003, Zimbabwe is set to co host the upcoming 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup with South Africa while Namibia will join them as the host for the first time. As the cricket fans of Zimbabwe is set experience the thrilling tournament live. As Williams is a crucial member of the squad, he was asked about his availability in the tournament and he answered it in style.

“I would like to try and play until then, yes. But injuries and form will always be the deciding factors. If I manage to hang on, it may be by a thread, but yes, a home goodbye would be wonderful.” he said.

Standing at this point of his career, Williams is all set to achieve another milestone of his career as he is just 9 matches away to play 100 ODIs on the home soil. Even if his participation scenario in the 2027 World Cup is still not clear but the Zimbabwe fans must want to see him representing the nation again on the big stage.
