Nitish Rana became one of the many cricketers from Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) 2024 title-winning line-up to get released from the franchise on the day of IPL 2025 retention announcement. After spending seven seasons with KKR, the Delhi-born batting extraordinaire put himself up for grabs at the IPL 2025 mega auction, and found himself a new home at Rajasthan Royals for nearly three times his base value.
On Wednesday, November 27, i.e., roughly a month after getting released by KKR, Nitish Rana has bid his farewell to his previous team as he looks ahead for a fresh journey with the Royals.
Nitish Rana thanks KKR, wishes them the best for future
On November 27, Nitish Rana took to X and expressed his admirations for the KKR team management for their seven-season association, dating back since IPL 2018. He described the KKR franchise as the ‘most important’ part of his career, and also thanked KKR fans for their continuous support throughout his seven-year run with them.
Moreover, Rana also wished the current KKR management the very best for future IPL seasons.
Interestingly, Nitish Rana’s wife Saachi Marwah took an indirect dig at the KKR team management a few weeks after the cricketer was released by them. Taking to social media, she signified that importance of ‘loyalty’ by writing:
‘Loyalty is very expensive, not everyone can afford it.’
Nonetheless, Nitish Rana was roped in by the Rajasthan Royals for a sum of Rs.4.20 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. He will play under the leadership of Sanju Samson, and alongside the likes of fellow new recruits and international stars Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana and Fazalhaq Farooqi. Jofra Archer, who is returning for his second gig at the Royals, fetched the biggest amount by them at the bidding event in Saudi Arabia.
