In a significant development, Sarfaraz Khan has passed the Yo-Yo test and has registered a score of 17. His test was conducted today (September 27, 2025) at the Centre of Excellence (CEO). The result of this test will be crucial for the Mumbai batter, as he has been facing scrutiny over his fitness for a long time now.
The Yo-Yo test involves 20-meter shuttle runs with 10-second recovery intervals after every 40 meters. This fitness test is designed to meet the demands of match play and test a player's ability to recover.

This development was reported by Devendra Pandey of The Indian Express and has just come after his omission from India’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies.
However, it is important to note that Sarfaraz has been included in Mumbai Ranji Trophy probables for the 2025-26 season. The star batter last represented India in November 2024 against New Zealand.
Sarfaraz Khan's remarkable fitness turnaround
Sarfaraz Khan has often been regarded as one of the most talented batters, but his fitness has been a concern and topic of discussion throughout his career.
Earlier his weight was around 100 kilograms and he faced endless criticism for this, so in a bid to rebuild his international career, the 27-year-old decided to take matters into his own hands. The Mumbai player drastically worked on himself with fitness regime and a balanced diet.
The star batter had many critics who would say he did not take fitness seriously, and it was a belief that this was one of the main things holding him back from cementing a permanent place in India’s Test side.
But in just a few months, Sarfaraz has reportedly lost 17 kilograms and his resolve, now considered a serious 'message to the selectors', emphasises he is serious and ready to contribute at the highest level.
