Pakistan cricket keeps on giving surprises and after the end of the PSL draft, another surprising retirement came up as pace sensation, Ihsanullah announced his shocking retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after not getting picked in the draft which took place on Monday.
In a candid interview, the pacer voiced his frustration and vowed never to play the franchise league again as he announced his retirement. The pace bowler, who carved a name for himself in the PSL, used to consistently bowl in the region of 145-150 and also breached the 150 km/h mark as at one point he was the fastest pacer in the league.
However, injuries hampered his career and it went downhill as no franchise came calling for him during the PSL draft. Expressing his anger, Ihsanullah revealed that no franchise approached him despite the fact that he performed exceedingly well in the domestic circuit.
“Not a single franchise contacted me,” he said during the interview.
“If you perform, these franchises will come after you. My goal is to make them chase after me, and I need to perform like that. I’ll bowl at a pace of 150-160, and those who have said I’m a 130-135 bowler, in one and a half months, I’ll show them that I wasn’t the same bowler who played in PSL 8 and got injured. I’ll look much better than that,” he added.
Retirement not an emotional call
Ihsanullah asserted that the sudden retirement call is not on emotional ratio, but due to the selfish nature of the world.
“I just don’t want to play franchise cricket anymore. It’s over after today. I completely boycott it and retire from the PSL. I won’t be seen in the PSL again. I want to represent Pakistan by performing in domestic cricket, not by playing in the PSL,” he announced.
Teams strengthen by adding players in PSL draft
The draft took place on Monday and all the teams strengthened their squad by adding big names in their squad. The likes of David Warner, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell and Rassie van der Dussen were sold in the auction as this season will witness some of the big international names in action in PSL.
