Pakistan cricket is going through a turmoil with Pakistan failing to qualify for the knockout stage of the ICC tournament again. In the past couple of years, there have been many changes in their team along with the captain and support staff, but results have been below par. The latest setback has again put the leadership group under scrutiny, and there are reports that Aaqib Javed will be removed as head coach.

PCB Ready For Change In Support Staff After Champions Trophy

Now, a Pakistan journalist, Qadir Khawaja has revealed that the former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is favourite to take over the head coach role. The reporter also mentioned that he has accepted the offer after meeting the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. His first assignment is likely to be the white-ball series in New Zealand.

Also, Khawaja has revealed that Saqlain Mushtaq was offered the head coach role before Champions Trophy 2025, but he did not accept the offer then. However, after the Champions Trophy debacle, the Pakistan cricket now looks set to move to a new direction and would be hoping that the legendary spinner takes them back on track.

There are also calls of removal of Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan's white-ball captain. However, he is is likely to be persisted for some more time as the Men in Green won two consecutive bilateral series against South Africa and Australia under his leadership. There is also report that some star players will skip the New Zealand series due to the fear of getting dropped and Pakistan might opt for a team full of youngsters in the New Zealand tour.
