Pakistan have announced the preliminary squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy  and the squad includes Fakhar Zaman who has not been in the scheme of things after his controversial post on X. The list has been revealed by Tribune, and it includes 18 players. However, the report also states that Pakistan have submitted the list of over 20 players to ICC.

The squad includes big names like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi along with Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. However, the report also states that Pakistan selectors are hopeful of Saim Ayub making the cut after his injury setback. His name though is not present in the 18 players list that has been released in the report, and so there is an element of doubt over his participation in the mega event.

Shadab Khan Likely To Miss Champions Trophy 2025

The middle order includes the names of players like Tayyab Tahir, Irfan Khan Niazi, Usman Khan along with Kamran Ghulam and Salman Ali Agha who did well in the South Africa series. On the bowling front, there is no Shadab Khan and the selectors seem to have moved on from the leg-spinner with Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem doing well in recent times.

The preliminary squad also includes Mohammad Hasnain along with the star trio of Naseem, Shaheen and Haris Rauf. Pakistan will kickstart the tournament with a clash against New Zealand on February 19 while the marquee encounter between India and Pakistan will be played on February 23 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
