SA20 franchises locked in some big names through either pre-season signings or player retentions ahead of the auction of the upcoming fourth edition of the tournament. Each of the six competing teams were permitted a maximum of six retained or pre-signing players, comprising no more than three South African and three overseas cricketers.

Apart from player retentions and pre-signings, SA20 teams also strategically completed their six wildcard signings. It is worth noting that a wildcard player can be any one cricketer who was part of the team’s squad in the previous season, i.e., in SA20 2025 in this case.

As confirmed by SA20 on their official website, all six franchises have completed their pre-signing and player retentions for the upcoming 2025-26 auction.

Joburg Super Kings: Faf du Plessis, James Vince, Akeal Hosein, Richard Gleeson, Donovan Ferreira (Wildcard)

After the pre-signings and retentions, as many as 84 slots are still available to be filled at the auction later this year. The collective maximum purse of all six franchises now amounts to R131 million, with Pretoria Capitals having the biggest available purse with R32.5 million.

The auction of the fourth edition of SA20 is scheduled to be staged on September 9 this year in Johannesburg. Unlike preceding editions, the SA20 2025-26 season will commence in the final week of December and will run until January 25, as confirmed by CSA earlier this year.
