Ruturaj Gaikwad Blames 'Dew Factor' For Marcus Stoinis Storm Taking Off In Chennai

In a game where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scored 210 runs batting first, no one would expect them to lose, given their bowling strength, the presence of MS Dhoni and the roaring Chepauk stadium.

However, Marcus Stoinis pulled off a performance reminiscent of Jos Buttler on Tueday evening. Just like Buttler single-handedly led Rajasthan Royals (RR) to victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Stoinis did it against CSK.

Ruturaj seemed clueless against Stoinis right from the start. He appeared to rely solely on saving his ace bowler, Pathirana's overs for the second half of Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) innings instead of targeting Stoinis' wicket. Stoinis played smartly, preserving his wicket and choosing his shots carefully.

The Australian hard-hitter capitalized on the dew factor and exploited loose deliveries of other bowlers to make up for Matheesha Pathirana's tight overs. Whereas, Nicholas Pooran through his cameo innings provided the ignition LSG needed after Devdutt Padikkal's dismissal as well.

Post game CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad blamed the dew factor for the loss.

"We had the game in control till 13-14 overs, but Stoinis played a great innings. (On dew) It played a part, there was a huge amount of dew and it took our spinners out of the game. We could have otherwise controlled the game better and taken it deeper. But these are parts of the game, can’t control it" - Ruturaj said post game.

CSK after 2 straight losses against LSG is in a tough spot. CSK had also lost their first home game of the season. CSK will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next game.
