Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the teenage prodigy, recently made headlines by being the youngest player sold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, with the Rajasthan Royals snatching him up for a whopping INR 1.10 crore. Apparently, he has made it to the first page again with his latest achievement in Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The 13-year-old batting sensation, has etched his name into the record books of cricket history, becoming the youngest Indian cricketer to grace the pitch in List A cricket. The record was made when Vaibhav featured in a riveting clash between Bihar and Madhya Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, held at the NexGen Cricket Ground in Hyderabad.
Suryavanshi Surpasses Ali Akbar To Set New Record
At the age of 13, Suryavanshi shattered the previous record held by Ali Akbar, who debuted at 14 years and 51 days during the legendary 1999-2000 season. This youthful dynamo isn't just making waves in List A, he already holds the title for being the youngest Indian to debut in the Ranji Trophy and to play at the Under-19 level as well.
However, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's List A debut was not as spectacular as he wanted it to be. After scoring a stunning boundary off the very first ball he faced, Vaibhav's excitement was short-lived as he was dismissed on just his second delivery by Aryan Pandey.
Bihar, batting first, faced a daunting challenge, ultimately bowled out for 196 in 46.4 overs. Bipin Saurabh and captain Sakibul Gani stood resilient amidst the storm, scoring 50 and 48 runs, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to write a triumphant tale. Madhya Pradesh, with a spark of brilliance, chased the target with ease, seizing victory in just 25.1 overs. The star of the show was Harsh Gawli, whose explosive 83 off 63 balls left spectators breathless.
Vaibhav's Recent Performances
Vaibhav's recent performance in the Under-19 Asia Cup was nothing short of spectacular, as he emerged as India’s second-highest run-scorer. In just five innings, he amassed 176 runs, boasting an impressive average of 44 with a strike rate that dazzled at 145.45. His standout performances included an unbeaten 76 off 46 balls against the UAE and a sensational 67 off 36 against Sri Lanka.
