Bangladesh cricket fans might see two of their biggest stars, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, return for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed recently hinted that both players are still available for this big tournament selection.
BCB’s Stand on Selection
According to Faruque Ahmed, any player who hasn’t retired is eligible for selection. He clarified that while Tamim remains in contention, Shakib’s future is less clear, as no updates have been received about his BPL participation.
"If a player hasn’t retired, the selectors can decide if they are needed for the team," Faruque explained.
“Shakib issue is a different issue and there is nothing new. In the last West Indies tour he was not in a mental state to play and now Shakib will say whether he will play BPL or what is his state I cannot say anything because I don’t have any update regarding him," Faruque on Shakib.
He added that Tamim’s involvement would depend on discussions between the selectors and team management.
“As far as Tamim is concerned look what the chief selector said. There is no policy and if a player is yet to retire and the selectors think he is required for the team in that case the selection committee will have to talk with that particular player," Faruque added.
Najmul Hossain Shanto’s Captaincy
The BCB is also undecided about Najmul Hossain Shanto’s role as captain. Shanto initially wanted to step down but changed his mind after discussions with the BCB President. A final decision on his leadership is expected after December 14.
