Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma and his fellow opener, Shubman Gill, have achieved a stunning feat in the ODI format. They now hold the record for the highest opening partnership average of 74.90, surpassing the iconic Sachin Tendulkar and Ajay Jadeja pair, who had a 59.77 average, and Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy, who are now at number three.

Both Rohit and Shubman have amassed 1695 runs from 24 innings which includes 5 hundred plus stands.

Rohit Sharma And Shubman Gill Script A New Record

In the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo; Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma had a brilliant partnership of 97 runs for the opening wicket during which they went past the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Ajay Jadeja duo.

Though, Rohit and Gill lit up the stage for the Indian team; the middle order faltered constantly as a result of which they failed to clinch a victory by missing the mark by 32 runs.

Earlier, Charith Asalanka and Co won the toss and opted to bat first against Rohit Sharma's Men In Blue and managed to put up a fighting total of 240. In the chase, India were restricted to 208.

As the first ODI was tied between the two teams, the series now stands 1-0 in favour of Sri Lanka, with the final game slated to take place on August 7.
