Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha recently revisited a pivotal moment from his early career, sharing the impactful advice he received from Rohit Sharma during their Under-19 days.

Ojha reminisced about Rohit’s wisdom on staying composed under pressure and maintaining focus, which significantly influenced his cricketing journey.

Pragyan Ojha, who made his international debut against Bangladesh on June 28, 2008, has had a distinguished career, featuring in 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and six T20Is for India. His career included crucial wickets, with 113 in Tests, 21 in ODIs, and 10 in T20Is.

Ojha's final appearance for the Indian team came in 2013 during Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test against the West Indies.

Everyone wants to play for the country: Pragyan Ojha

Transitioning to a commentator after retirement, Ojha has continued to stay connected with the game.

Recently, as part of Sony’s commentary panel during the ODI series between India and Sri Lanka, Ojha reflected on his past experiences with Rohit Sharma. The advice Rohit gave him during their U-19 days was particularly memorable.

“The best advice I received was from Rohit Sharma when we were playing U19 cricket. He said, ‘Everyone wants to play for the country because we have come at the U19 level. But if you want to play for India for a long time, then you need to be a match-winner,” Ojha said.

Rohit Sharma, now India’s captain, has continued to demonstrate his prowess on the field. Despite recent setbacks in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, where India faced unexpected defeats, Rohit’s leadership and performance remain influential.
