Sad, heartbroken and dejected are three words best suited to describe the current situation of the Indian cricket team and their fans. Luck, time and form has not been on India's side ever since the Test season began. India, who were crushed by Australia in the fourth Test aka the Boxing Day Test, failed majorly because of two reasons: batting in the first innings and then batting in the second innings.

Addressing the press conference after a mammoth 184-run defeat, Rohit Sharma said that the loss against the Aussies was "mentally disturbing", conceding that his team failed to fight in the match. Not just the team, but specifically Indian captain Rohit Sharma's captaincy and performance has come under fire.

He has failed to fire the bat in the last three Test matches and that has played a significant part in India's losses. With just 31 runs in three Tests, his tally is barely ahead of Jasprit Bumrah’s 30 wickets since arriving in Australia, underscoring a troubling lean patch.

Rohit Sharma To Retire Soon?

In fact as per latest developments, a report by Times of India claims that Rohit Sharma’s ongoing struggles in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy have raised serious questions about his future in Test cricket. His extended slump, coupled with tactical issues as captain, suggests that his time in whites may be nearing its end.

While there have been discussions with the BCCI about his future, it seems increasingly likely that Rohit’s retirement announcement will come soon, potentially after the series concludes. Although he may aim to play in the World Test Championship final if India qualifies, Sydney could very well mark his final appearance in Test cricket. If India falls short, it will likely be the end of an era for Rohit Sharma in the longest format.
