Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir fired shots at the batters for their careless approach in the recently held Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Barring an emphatic win in the first Test at Perth Stadium, Team India's journey in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been far from memorable.

The last three games witnessed Australia's overwhelming dominance over the tourists, as Rohit Sharma and co further jeopardised their WTC final chances with two humiliating defeats. Talking about the Boxing Day Test, India had a golden opportunity to play out the remaining overs and ensure a drawn affair at the iconic MCG.

Had they drawn the Test, India could've added four crucial WTC points to their tally. However, the Indian batters' reckless shot selection made things easier for the home side, with Pat Cummins and his men emerging triumphant by 184 runs.

Dejected Gambhir Gives Final Warning To Non-performing Batters

According to a report by The Indian Express, Gautam Gambhir was extremely disappointed after India's horrific defeat in the MCG Test. The former opener was particularly unpleased with the Indian batters' pathetic shot selection on a pitch where a fighting draw seemed pretty much possible.

The report claims that Gambhir strictly urged the players to abide by the pre-decided team strategy and play according to the situation. The ex-cricketer even took a jibe at some of the prominent batters, who gave the lame excuse of natural game after throwing their wickets with reckless shots.

Gambhir Unhappy With Pujara's Non-Selection, Tough Calls To Be Made After BGT

The report also stated that Gambhir wanted Cheteshwar Pujara back in the Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Therefore, he couldn't take it easily when the selectors turned down his suggestion.

Furthermore, it's mentioned that a call on Rohit Sharma's captaincy future will be taken after the ongoing BGT. Although the BCCI hasn't finalised a successor for the legendary cricketer, an experienced batter is ready to take over the reins as an interim option.
