After a brief break from international cricket, Team India is coming back in competitive cricket. Ahead of the Asia Cup, a number of Indian stars are set to undergo fitness tests on August 30 in Bengaluru.

After stepping away from the Test format, Team India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma is set to appear in the fitness test with the other stars. But Virat Kohli’s availability is still not clear.

Hitman To Undergo a Fitness Test

After stepping away from the Test and T20I formats, Rohit Sharma is out of competitive cricket for a long. Playing competitive cricket for the last time in IPL 2025, Hitman is eyeing a comeback in the upcoming ODI series against Australia in October 2025. Ahead of that, the star opener is set to undergo a fitness Test on August 30 at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Along with the Yo-Yo Test, a Dexa scan, which will test the bone density, will also take place. With the high-stakes season around the corner, the team management is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring peak fitness and preparation.

A BCCI official has spoken about the fitness Test. Speaking to the Indian Express, he said, “All players have to undergo a pre-season fitness Test, it’s mandatory as per the contract. These tests help the COE understand the areas the players have to work on or where they are lacking. As there was a big break (after the England Test series), the players were given sets of exercises to do at home.”

“Look, we take these tests (Yo Yo, sprint, power, Dexa) as part of our assessments. It helps us get an idea about an athlete’s condition. For us as professionals, we are responsible to present benchmarks that are challenging yet achievable after having reviewed the team’s fitness standard,” he added.

No Clarity on Kohli’s Participation

Along with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli is also out of the game after the IPL 2025. Though spotted training in London, his participation in the upcoming fitness test remains uncertain. It’s also unclear when he will appear for the mandatory test ahead of the ODI series against Australia. Along with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, and Jasprit Bumrah will also undergo the fitness Test.
