Reports of a possible rift within the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp seems to be getting wider with each passing day. Amidst the in-franchise captaincy turmoil between active leader Hardik Pandya and his predecessor Rohit Sharma, the latter of the two was reportedly spotted leaving the nets upon the arrival of the former at the site.
Pandya was appointed as Mumbai Indians captain by the franchise a couple of months prior to the launch of the IPL 2024 season, thus replacing decade-long skipper Sharma.
The move sparked a widespread outrage among numerous Mumbai Indians fans as well as Rohit Sharma enthusiasts, with a number of them aggressively advocating for the reinstatement of the five-time winner.
Rohit, SKY get up and leave nets upon seeing Pandya
As reported by Dainik Jagran, Rohit Sharma hit the nets at one point on the eve of Mumbai Indians’ away IPL 2024 match against KKR last week. After finishing his batting drill, the dashing opener sat on the sidelines with teammates Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.
The report further stated that just as captain Hardik Pandya walked out to the nets for a session, the trio got up and walked towards the opposite side of the ground.
Recent development aside, both Rohit Sharma and Pandya can occasionally be spotted celebrating a wicket together during Mumbai Indians games this IPL 2024 season. The franchise, on the whole, is currently undergoing one of its toughest phases in recent memory.
Under the leadership of Hardik, they secured just four wins from their first 13 league games to become one of the first sides of the season to get knocked out of the playoffs race.
They will now face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to sum up their disastrous IPL 2024 run on May 17 at the Wankhede Stadium.
