India captain Rohit Sharma is all set to make his comeback by playing for India A in the unofficial ODI series against Australia A. This series will take place just before India’s white-ball series against Australia, which begins in October.

Rohit Sharma To Play For India A

According to reports by Shamik Chakrabarty from RevSportz, the three-match unofficial ODI series will begin on 30 September 2025, and all the matches will be played in Kanpur.

Importantly, if Rohit plays, it will be his first international outing since the Champions Trophy 2025 final in March. Back then, he guided India to victory over New Zealand with a brilliant 76 runs off 83 balls, which earned him the Player of the Match award. That match on March 9, 2025, was also the last time he played an ODI for India.

Notably, it has been 82 days without competitive cricket for Rohit. His last appearance came for the Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier of the IPL 2025. During that tournament, he surprised fans by announcing his retirement from Test cricket on social media.

Because of this, there has been a lot of speculation about his future in the game. Moreover, some reports even suggest that the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia could be his final international assignment.

Rohit Sharma Gears Up For ODI Cricket

However, instead of paying attention to rumors, Rohit has been fully focused on his training. He has been practicing hard with his long-time friend and coach Abhishek Nayar. Recently, a video of the 38-year-old batting in the nets at a Mumbai stadium went viral, showing just how determined he is to make a strong return.

With his achievements, Rohit has already secured his place among the greatest ODI players. So far, he has scored 11,168 runs at an average of 48.76, including 32 centuries, making him the second-highest run-scorer among active cricketers.

Meanwhile, there is no update on whether Virat Kohli will be playing in the unofficial ODI series.

Looking ahead, Indian men’s team will travel to Australia in the third week of October. They will first play a three-match ODI series, followed by five T20 internationals against Australia.
