Indian captain Rohit Sharma has become the latest cricketing personality to receive an invitation to attend the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

While the high-profile religious event will take place on January 22, Sharma is slated to lead the Indian cricket team in their upcoming five-match home Test series against England from January 25 onwards.

The ceremony is expected to be attended by several prominent Indian personalities across sports, entertainment and politics.

Previously, former and active Team India players like MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Harmanpreet Kaur and Ravichandran Ashwin have already received their respective invitations from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

Rohit Sharma has joined a long list of legendary Indian cricketers to receive an invitation to the Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony in Ayodhya, set to be held on January 22. As per a report from PTI, the active Indian skipper received his invitation on January 20, i.e., just a couple of days prior to the high-profile event.

Notably, Sharma is due to lead the Indian team in a five-match home Test series against England from January 25 onwards at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The fixtures also constitute a part of the ongoing 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

As per reports, Sharma’s teammate Virat Kohli has already received permission from the BCCI to attend the Ram Mandir inauguration.

Earlier this month, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that the team will be commencing its preparation for the Test series from January 20 onwards with a training camp in Hyderabad. In lieu of the religious ceremony, the training regime of the series-bound Indian players remains to be answered.
