Cricket Australia has been accused of mistreating the Indian cricket team in Canberra amidst their two-day tour match against Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI. With rains engulfing the Manuka Oval in Canberra during match time, several Team India players were spotted attending the venue without any cover, at a time when even Australian security staff were carrying umbrellas.
Fans and media are alleging that the incident put the travelling Indian players at risk of coping an injury just days ahead of the all-important second Test match against Australia at the Adelaide Oval.
CA accused of ‘mistreating’ Indian players
In an age where Australian and other overseas cricketers are known to receive roaring welcome from fans across all Indian cities, particularly during IPL seasons, fans are alleging that the Indian cricket team has been mistreated by Cricket Australia ‘Down Under’ during the ongoing 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series.
On Day 1 of the two-day tour match between India and Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI in a rain-marred Manuka Oval, several Indian players including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant among others were spotted attending the venue without being assisted by stadium or security staff with umbrellas.
Fans and media even believe that the incident put the Indian players at risk of a serious injury.
As it panned out, the entire opening day of the two-day match at the Manuka Oval in Canberra was washed out owing to ceaseless rains around the venue. The BCCI has now revealed that the second day will feature a 50-overs-per-side affair in a bid to give both, Indian batters and bowlers a crack at some match practice before the second Test.
Team India, in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, won the series-opening first Test match in Perth last month by 295 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
