Mumbai pulled off a stunning chase against Andhra in their final Group E match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 season at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Chasing 230 for a win, senior man Ajinkya Rahane clobbered 95 runs from just 54 deliveries with nine boundaries and four huge sixes.

Young batting all-rounder Suryansh Shedge also played his part in the chase by whacking 30 unbeaten runs from eight balls.

Batting at number six and arriving at the crease with Mumbai requiring another 30 runs for a win from the remaining two overs, Suryansh Shedge smeared two boundaries and three sixes in his whirlwind eight-ball 30* to blaze his team to a four-wicket victory with three balls to spare. Thus, Mumbai surpassed Baroda to record the highest successful run-chase in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Earlier in the match, opening batters Prithvi Shaw (34 off 15) and Ajinkya Rahane shared a swift 51-run partnership in four overs before the latter raged on to smack 95 from 54 balls. Captain Shreyas Iyer also chipped in with 25 from 11 balls, while fellow Indian international Shivam Dube made 34 off 18.

Suryansh Shedge’s blazing cameo, on the other hand, did him a world of good following his selection for the Punjab Kings franchise at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Saudi Arabia last month.

Shedge was roped in by the PBKS management for Rs.30 lakh at the bidding event, despite holding limited T20 experience in his profile. The 21-year-old has played six T20 matches to date, including his latest appearance against Andhra, to tally 53 runs at an astronomical strike rate of 220.83.

In first-class cricket, Shedge has played nine innings spanning six matches and has scored 343 runs at an average of 49 and a strike rate of 100.

During the IPL 2025 season, the young batting all-rounder will be joined by the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal and international stars Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Marco Jansen within the Punjab Kings setup.
